A Problem, DrawnSample Preview
A square drawn inside a circleA square sits inside a circle with all four corners touching it. The circle is labeled with an area of 36 pi, and the square's area is marked with a question mark. A dashed diagonal of the square passes through the circle's center, and a radius runs from the center to the circle's edge. Numbered markers show a path through the reasoning: 1 at the radius, 2 on the diagonal, and 3 at the square's area.Circle area = 36πrArea = ?123
The path: 1, find the radius. 2, use it to find the square’s diagonal. 3, turn the diagonal into an area. Work through it below.

One Problem, One Step at a Time.

An original problem with the kind of explanation the planned product is designed to give.
Try it on paper first, then reveal one step at a time.

Sample problem: a square in a circle

Sample Preview

A square is drawn inside a circle so that all four of its corners touch the circle. The circle’s area is 36π square units. What is the area of the square?

  1. Step 1Start with what you know

    A circle’s area is πr2. Here πr2 = 36π, so r2 = 36 and the radius is 6.

  2. Step 2Connect the circle to the square

The square’s diagonal runs from corner to corner through the center of the circle, so it is a diameter: 2 × 6 = 12.

  3. Step 3Use the diagonal

    A square’s area is half the square of its diagonal: 122 ÷ 2 = 144 ÷ 2 = 72.

  4. Answer: the square’s area is 72 square units.

Sample Preview: a static example of the planned experience. It doesn’t record answers, track mastery, or predict competition results.

Spot the Misunderstanding

If you got 144, you probably used the diagonal, 12, as the side length. The diagonal is the circle’s diameter, not the square’s side.

Explanations like this one are planned to name the slip, not just the right answer, so the fix sticks.

Then Try Another

Same idea, new numbers: a square’s corners touch a circle whose area is 50π. What is the square’s area?

Reveal the Solution

r2 = 50, so the diagonal squared is (2r)2 = 4r2 = 200.

Half of that is the area: 200 ÷ 2 = 100 square units.

Planned Practice

The Skills Competition Problems Ask For.

Six planned areas of practice, built for MATHCOUNTS and for UIL Number Sense and Mathematics.
Practice in each will follow what you’re ready to learn next.

Number Sense

Planned

Mental math, estimation, and number properties: quick, reliable arithmetic that frees your attention for the hard part of a problem.

Algebra

Planned

Expressions, equations, systems, and functions, practiced until setting up a problem feels natural.

Geometry

Planned

Angles, areas, similar figures, circles, and coordinates, with diagrams you learn to read, mark up, and draw.

Counting

Planned

Lists, cases, and arrangements: counting carefully, without missing a case or counting one twice.

Probability

Planned

Outcomes, chance, and expected value, built on the same careful counting.

Timed Problem Solving

Planned

Sets of problems against a clock, so speed grows out of understanding instead of replacing it.

How It Will Work

Practice That Follows What You Need Next.

The planned product is built on the AccelaStudy AI adaptive learning engine.
Here is what that is designed to mean on an ordinary practice day.

  1. Start Where You Are

A short set of problems shows which skills are solid and which need work, so practice doesn’t start from page one.

  2. Practice What’s Next

Sessions focus on problems you’re ready to learn from, instead of ones you’ve already mastered or can’t reach yet.

  3. Find the Misunderstanding

When an answer is wrong, the explanation shows where the reasoning went off track, like using a diagonal as a side.

  4. Try Another, Then Review

A related problem lets you use the fix right away, and the skill comes back later so it stays sharp.

Who It’s For

For Competitors and the Adults Who Help Them.

Students

Build problem-solving habits on your own schedule, with practice aimed at what you need to learn next.

Parents and Guardians

A focused way for your student to keep practicing between meetings, with explanations that teach instead of just grading.

Teachers and Librarians

A resource to point students toward when they want more than the classroom has time for.

Coaches

Each student’s practice is designed to adapt on its own, so meeting time can go to strategy and discussion. Team and classroom options have not been announced.
